No but seriously Jekyll and Lanyon from the Glass Scientists webcomic are such a good fucking written gay couple, I can’t stress it enough and I can’t say it enough. As every new page of the comic goes by, I love them more and more. They’re not just amazing as a couple, they’re amazing as their own characters, and how they clash with one another. They’re not even a couple technically yet, but they’re reaching towards it, and what follows is a messy complicated relationship of self loathing and doubt, fear, repression, emotional attachment, commitment, communication issues, and so much more than I cant stuff into one post. There’s so much to them, there’s so many layers to this comic and how it deals with these serious topics that it has me hooked and emotionally attached. They care about each other but have a hard time showing it. They secretly loathe each other deep down for their past trauma and stupidity, they worry for each other but are idiots, they hide their emotions, don’t communicate, and it doesn’t help that they live in a time period where being gay ain’t accepted.

Jekyll is a man with serious self loathing issues who masks his depression and hides everything behind a smile, drowning himself in his work, Lanyon is a stubborn man with attachment issues and daddy issues, who wants to be prideful and careless, and comes off as that a lot, but deep down does care for Henry, and its actually believable through his actions and dialogue. They’re just so complicated and messy and I love it, it got to the point where I went from not really rooting for them to be a couple to VERY quickly wanting them to be a couple, and the comic doesn’t shy away from calling BOTH characters out on their own issues and problems, but also trying to reach towards a goal where maybe…just maybe they can figure things out, even if they both need help. They’re just…so so good I can’t. 😭

i’m gonna cry it’s raining right now and i just passed by a family where both parents were without an umbrella but their kid who couldn’t have been older than like 3-4 was proudly holding this GIANT umbrella whose diameter was as tall (if not taller) as the kid. both the parents were getting absolutely drenched but u could tell the kid was just so happy to have an “adult” task and carry the umbrella themselves and i think that sacrifice is what love is all about

y’all just— thinking about how excited Stanley must have been to host the twins— Alex says he smokes cigars but he doesn’t smoke once in the show— has a beer gut but he only drinks sodas in front of the kids— doesn’t swear when they’re around which must have taken INCREDIBLE effort— Stanley Pines, known crook, buying pancake mix at the supermarket and many bottles of syrup— learning to cook basic healthy meals and burning so many of them before he gets it right— buying new sheets, new mattresses— avoiding bunk beds because it reminds him of Ford— looking at the attic room he made wondering “is this enough will they like me”— trying to act aloof at the bus stop so he doesn’t betray the fact that he was there hours early— watching them goof around and thinking of New Jersey beaches— then the first night they’re there, he watches them debate running away and only stay because Mabel shook a magic 8 ball. That must have kept him awake all night.

People might bring up Vincent van Gogh as an example of a painter who did great work in spite of, or because of, his suffering. I like to think that van Gogh would have been even more prolific and even greater if he wasn't so restricted by the things tormenting him. I don't think it was pain that made him so great, I think painting brought him whatever happiness he had.
